China Suppliers Factory HXGN17-12 Fixed Metal-Enclosed AC Ring Main Switchgear 12kV for Power Distribution
HXGN17-12 Type Fixed Metal-Enclosed AC Ring Main Switchgear is a high-voltage equipment assembly designed for use in 12 kV and 50 Hz applications. This versatile switchgear is ideal for three-phase AC ring main networks, terminal distribution networks, and industrial power equipment, serving critical functions such as power reception, distribution, and protection. Our product is also perfectly suited for installation in prefabricated substations, making it a reliable choice for various applications. As a leading manufacturer in China, our factory ensures high-quality production standards, making us a preferred supplier for your electrical equipment needs
Based on the installation method of the load switch, ring main units can be classified into side-mounted types and front-mounted types.
1. Structure of the Side-Mount Ring Main Unit
The side-mount ring main unit consists of electrical components, the cabinet body, and an interlocking mechanism.
a. Electrical Components
The primary electrical components include: FN12-12 load switches with side-mounted operating mechanisms; ISARC-type load switches manufactured by VEI; LBS- or VLBS-type load switches manufactured by LKE; current transformers; voltage transformers; and high-voltage live-line indicators. All components are securely mounted onto the cabinet body.
b. Cabinet Body
The cabinet body of the side-mount ring main unit adopts a fully assembled structure, comprising a frame, top panel, door panel, and side enclosure panels, forming a fully enclosed structure. The frame, top cover, front panel, and side enclosure panels are all fabricated from bent steel plates.
c. Interlocking Mechanism
An interlocking device is installed among the load switch, earthing switch, and front door panel within the ring main unit. Their operational relationships are as follows:
When the load switch is closed, the earthing switch cannot be closed and the front door panel cannot be opened.
When the load switch is open, the earthing switch may be closed. When the earthing switch is closed, the front door panel may be opened.
When the earthing switch is closed, the load switch cannot be closed, but the front door panel may be opened.
When the earthing switch is open, the load switch may be opened or closed, but the front door panel cannot be opened.
In cable-inlet cabinets, when voltage is present at the incoming cable — regardless of whether the load switch is open or closed — an electromagnetic lock prevents the front door panel from being opened (except in emergencies using a dedicated key for manual unlocking).
2. Structure of Front-Mounted Ring Main Unit
The front-mounted ring main unit consists of electrical components, the cabinet body, and an interlocking mechanism.
a. Electrical Components
The primary electrical components include the FN12-12 type load switch without side-mounted operating mechanisms, the ISARC type load switch manufactured by VEI Company, the LBS or VLS type load switches manufactured by LK Company, current transformers, voltage transformers, and high-voltage live-line indicators.
b. Cabinet Body
The cabinet body of the front-mounted ring main unit adopts a fully assembled structure, comprising a frame, top plate, door panels, side enclosure panels, and an operating mechanism.
c. Interlocking Mechanism
The interlocking mechanism of the front-mounted ring main unit ensures operational sequence and safety.
3. Busbars
Busbars may be manufactured from copper or aluminum.
Color coding of busbars is used for phase identification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What are the two main types of ring main units based on load switch installation?
Ring main units are classified into side-mounted types and front-mounted types, based on how the load switch operating mechanism is installed on the cabinet.
Q2: What are the main electrical components of a side-mount ring main unit?
Key components include FN12-12 load switches with side-mounted mechanisms, ISARC-type load switches, LBS/VLBS-type load switches, current transformers, voltage transformers, and high-voltage live-line indicators.
Q3: What is the purpose of the interlocking mechanism in a ring main unit?
The interlocking mechanism coordinates the operational relationships between the load switch, earthing switch, and front door panel to ensure safe operation—preventing dangerous combinations such as closing the earthing switch while the load switch is still closed.
Q4: Can the front door panel be opened when the load switch is closed?
No. When the load switch is closed, the interlocking mechanism prevents both the earthing switch from closing and the front door panel from being opened, ensuring personnel safety.
Q5: What materials can busbars in a ring main unit be made from?
Busbars may be manufactured from either copper or aluminum, with color coding applied to distinguish the phases.
Q6: What happens if voltage is present at the incoming cable in a cable-inlet cabinet?
An electromagnetic lock automatically prevents the front door panel from being opened, regardless of the load switch position. Emergency access is only possible using a dedicated key for manual unlocking.
